| Pictured
on the right is a comparison between a typical R-134a hose (left side of
the photo) and an R-12 charge hose. Note that the R-134a hose uses a 1/2"
ACME thread (male) to connect to the quick coupler.
The
R-12 hose is manufactured to connect to a conventional MALE FLARE Charge
Port typically used on R-12 A/C systems. The ADAPTER connects to the R-12
charge hose and the R-134a Quick Connect coupler. Using that adapter, you
can convert your R-12 hoses to work with any R-134a A/C system

in mind that you will require one adapter for each hose!

When
converting your R-12 gauges to work with R-134a, you have to verify what
couplers you have (or which ones you will purchase).
The
R-134a quick coupler on the left in the photo will require an adapter (as
shown). The quick coupler on the (lower) right is manufactured to convert
your R-12 hose, so no adapter is required.
The

| Don't
forget about your vacuum pump and refrigerant supply! Those connections will
need adapters too! |
| Yes,
when converting the charge hoses on your manifold gauge set it's important
not to forget about the vacuum pump and refrigerant supply (or your freon
tank).
The
photo here shows a typical R-12 YELLOW hose and teh adapter. The adapter
will connect to R-134a ACME thread on R-134a refrigerant tanks. Depending
on the vacuum pump you're using, you may also require this adapter to connect
to that too! |

| Why

As
an example, here's a look at a complete coupler kit that is used to convert
your R-12 gauges to work with any R-134a A/C system.
You
will notice that this kit include the Quick couplers (to connect to your
R-134a A/C system) plus the adapters that will thread into the coupler and
attach to your old R-12 hoses. Also included in the kit is the adapter for
your center (yellow) hose. That adapter let's you connect to the R-134a
refrigerant (freon tank). Everything you need is included in this kit (item
no. AR-6248) or the more economical
kit AR-6236. |

| When
you're converting your R-12 gauge set and hoses, keep in mind that (for the
most part) R-134a couplers and connections will NOT require the valve core
depressors.
As
shown in the photo on the right, you can easily remove the core depressor.
That will provide you better flow of refrigerant (freon) through your gauges.
Just don't forget to keep the seal (green in the photo) because you will
require it to make a leak free connection. |

you're removing the valve core depressors, keep in mind that there are a
variety of different ones. This photo shows the most common depressors. They
can all be removed from the hose while leaving the seal in place. |
